CARE PACKAGES FOR 65 KIDS IN TANZANIA
Ispired by Alison Fraser's upcoming trip to Tanzania, Tammy Cumming (a Mom2Mom supporter at the time) and two friends decided to send Alison with enough care packages for all of the Urafiki Program students and their siblings. They asked family and friends to donate $50 for each care package and hoped that they would raise enough money for all 65. They later reached out to businesses to help contribute to the bags.
The generosity and kindness was overwhelming, family, friends and businesses from all over Ontario began contributing to the bags. Oasis Footwear in Dundas, ON donated Chooze Shoes, Cedella Marley (daughter of Bob Marley) donated One Love Dolls and Bob Marley t-shirts, Waterloo Honda sponsored 8 care packages and donated their parts van to transport all of the bags to the aiport, the Heart & Stroke Foundation donated skipping ropes, Lululemon and Ivivva in Oakville donated the bags, dental supplies were donated by TechTown Dentistry and Laurelwood Dentistry in Waterloo, and family and friends of Mom2Mom Africa together raised enough funds and supplies to fill all 65 care packages. Thank you to all of the supporters.
All donors were invited to make handmade cards for each child and pack the care packages at a special "packing event". The Contemporary School of Dance donated space for this event. Friends and family joined in on the festivities and the Kitchener Record featured the event in the Local section. The suitcases arrived safely in Arusha, Tanzania on November 14, 2013 to smiling faces.
