Our Feature Student
Lucas Fupi
Lucas is one of 10 children being raised in a Masai family. His father had two wives. Lucas shares 8 brothers and sisters with the second wife. Lucas lives in a village that is full of children and he loves how everyone respects each other. The death of Lucas’ father in 2009 had a profound impact on the family. His father’s grave site stands outside of the modest family home made of clay and mud. Lucas’ mother began spending her time in the landfill where she collected items to resell in order to generate a small income to provide for her large family. She now suffers from a respiratory illness with severe chest congestion. She is no longer capable of working and the medication that she requires is very expensive. Lucas' family was unable to provide him the support he needed. He now lives in the orphanage next to Cheti 5 where he attends primary school. Prior to his sponsorship he was helping his family by spending his days herding cows. Lucas now spends his days in school where he is excelling in Math and Science. Lucas was sponsored with Mom2Mom Africa and became a part of the Urafiki Program in March of 2014. He dreams of becoming a pilot and loves to play Soccer with his friends. Manchester is Lucas’ favorite soccer team. Lucas radiates love and friendship through his smile. We look forward to watching him succeed at CHETI.
