OUR FUNDRAISERS
We hold regular fundraisers to support the education of children in Arusha, Tanzania. The following is a summary of some of those fundraising successes.
Scarves by Catherine - 2017 (ongoing)
Over the past 18 months, Catherine has raised close to $1700 selling her hand-knit scarves and homemade treats at local craft fairs. She is our youngest volunteer and is truly dedicated to supporting our students and programs. Catherine's family supports Vaileth, in our program and Catherine has even sent her crafts to Tanzania for her friend. Read more here.
Celtic Christmas Concerts - December 2, 2017 and December 8, 2018.
We had bagpipes, fiddles, highland dancing, and Scottish step dancing, along with music from the Steel City Rovers. Our craft sale at intermission was also a huge success.
Kindness Diaries - October 5, 2017.
We hosted Leon Logothetis of the hit Netflix series, The Kindness Diaries, at the Cambridge Centre for the Arts. With help from the Cambridge Firefighters, we raised over $5000 for Mom2Mom Africa. An incredible way to celebrate our 5th anniversary! Thank you to all of our generous sponsors and to the McDonald Family, Marchildon Family and Lauzon/Lemckert Families for their generous support!!
Climb for Arusha - April 2nd, 2017
Another successful climb fundraiser at Grand River Rocks, raising $2148.83 from our bake sale and donated day pass funds. Thank you to everyone who came out that day to support us and get us a step closer to getting the secondary school built. Thanks again as well to our amazing Waterloo Fire Fighters for helping out and belaying and entertaining the kids (and adults), was a really fun day for everyone! Also would like to thank Corrina Lauzon and Marieke Lemckert for baking cupcakes, Starbucks Waterloo (University/King), Zehrs Laurentian Plaza and Crossfit Mozomo for their draw prize donations.
Outdoor Movie Night - Sept 11, 2016
On September 11th, we held an Outdoor Movie Night and Silent Auction at Alison's house. Thanks to those who volunteered, donated and attended the event. We raised over $1400!
Social Art Bucket List- June 9, 2016
June 9, 2016 Social Art KW held a painting session called "Bucket List"and donated $345. It was a great evening for everyone.

Climb for Arusha - June 5, 2016
On June 5,2016 at Grand River Rocks, members of Waterloo Fire Rescue belayed members of the public for our Climb for Arusha event which raised $1570.92

CFUW-KW Presentation - February 16, 2016
Great night at First United Church in Waterloo where we did a presentation about Mom2Mom Africa and the Barafu Challenge Climb to Kilimanjaro to the wonderful ladies of CFUW-KW and raised close to $500 from the generous donations of the members there.
Giving Tuesday - December 1, 2015
On December 1, Mom2Mom Africa was apart of Giving Tuesday. We wanted to thank Eduarda Silvestre (Eduarda's Personal Training), JoJo Mar and everyone at Waterloo Fire Rescue, Kristi Coleman-Dorland, Ang Desjardins, Debbie Bulten, Corrina Lauzon and Heather Hay of Parkway Back Clinic for all of your support! We raised $164 for new uniforms and textbooks for our Mom2Mom Africa students in Tanzania! Thank you so much for all of your hard work Brenda Halloran!
Journey to the Roof of Africa - October 29, 2015
On October 29th, 2015 Laura Bender and Joanne Marchildon gave a presentation on their climb and journey of climbing Mt Kilimanjaro "Journey to the Roof of Africa" it was at Symposium Cafe in Waterloo and they raised over $620.
Outdoor Movie Night - September 12, 2015
On September 12th, an outdoor movie night fundraiser was held at Alison's house. More than 100 people attended the event, which included the showing of Madagascar 2 - Escape to Africa. In addition to watching the movie under the fall sky, hair beading and face-painting were both also available to attendees. We raised almost $2200! Barafu Challenge Fundraisers January - May 2015
Our first fundraiser for Barafu Challenge was with Jasjit an Indian Chef at Laura Bender's house and we raised $210. Baden Public School held a privilege day and raised $1180.10. We held a movie night at Clair Hills Retirement Community and raised $350. Social Art KW fundraiser raised $494 at Proof restaurant in Waterloo. Waterloo Fire Rescue Firefighter/Captain/Chef Patrick Mathieu cooked an amazing meal at the firehall and raised $700. Grand River Rocks in Kitchener graciously donated all their sales from he day with help from Waterloo firefighters and raised an amazing $1706.10. Car washes were held at all 4 Waterloo Fire Halls and raised a total of $1776.45. Laura Bender held a kids haircut fundraiser and bake sale event at her house and raised $763.50. The final fundraiser for the Barafu Challenge was a Silent Auction at the Wellness Fair at New Hamburg Rec Complex and raised $500. We surpassed our goal and raised a grand total of $14,003.73 in combination with donations from the public, family and friends and a sponsorship from Station Park All Suite Hotel from London Ontario for $1000.
Special thanks to all of our Watoto Program helpers for working so hard to raise funds for Mom2Mom Africa! And thanks to Boston Pizza Erbsville in Waterloo for hosting our event. We raised $452.54 for Mom2Mom Africa!
Soup for the Soul - With love from Tanzania - October 17, 2014
Our soup fundraiser in support of the Mom2Mom Africa Sustainability Project was a great success, raising over $1300.00. A special thank you to Dave Kroeker of Zoup! Cambridge for donating the yummy Zoup! Soup and to Alison Fraser, Tammy Cumming, Joanne Marchildon, Sofia Morgado and their children for volunteering their time at this event. We were thrilled to see over 60 people in attendance including Mayor Brenda Hollaron, Peter Braid and many members from the City of Waterloo Fire Department. We would also like to thank Grainharvest Breadhouse, Creations Art & Pottery Studio, Torreense Store, Tim Horton's, Zehrs and the City of Waterloo for their contributions to this event.
Outdoor Movie Night - September 13, 2014
A special thank you to the Kenney and Christie families for hosting an outdoor movie night and raising over $600 to help build a water well at the new school - Conquer Academy of CHETI. It was a wonderful way to spend a Fall evening with your family. Preston Towne Market Corn Roast Fundraiser - August 7, 2014

Girls Rock! Camp Fundraising - July 2014
Girls Rock! Camp held 3 lemonade stand fundraisers as part of their Jungle Weeks and raised $626 to purchase new desks for the new Conquer Academy of CHETI School! Thank you to Andrea, the Girls Rock! girls, the Guardian Angels and Angels for all of their hard work in raising the funds.
Car Wash Fundraiser - July 26, 2014
We raised $542.76 at our car wash fundraiser on July 26, 2014. A special thanks to Beverly Tire (Cambridge) for their promotion and hosting of this event. We also want to thank all of the volunteers and supporters who supported us at this fundraiser. Thank you to the McDermid, Marchildon, Kimpson, Morgado and Desjardins families for helping wash all those cars!
Movie Night in New Hamburg - June 26, 2014
Despite the threat of a rain storm, the Marchildon family successfully held a fundraising movie night for Mom2Mom Africa on June 26, 2014 and raised $260.50. Kids and adults alike enjoyed the Lion King and enjoyed lots of treats - popcorn, chips and candy. A special thank you to the Marchildon family for hosting this event and for all of the help and support from the Desjardins family.
Morgado Family Fundraiser
The Morgado Family has an annual family party and this year they decided to add in a raffle and silent auction to support Mom2Mom Africa. Sofia, Mario, Matthew, Nicholas and Catherine Morgado all pitched in and hosted an amazing event and raised $1,275. The kids were very much involved. A special thank you to the entire Morgado family for their support of Mom2Mom Africa.
"Celebrate Tanzania" Summer Fundraiser - June 1, 2014
On June 1, 2014, we held our annual Mom2Mom Africa Summer Backyard Fundraiser - Celebrate Tanzania. The afternoon was filled with African dancing, drumming, food and some Canadian treats. The Mayor of Arusha even joined in the celebration. We raised $3,471.70 to support the education of students in Arusha, Tanzania. A special thank you to the organizing committee, Alison Fraser, Tammy Cumming, Angela Desjardins and Joanne Marchildon.
Thank you to Nii from Creations Africa and Mariam Adams for leading us in the drumming and dancing, Essence Salon for the hair braiding and Elaine Tustin-Smith for face painting. Thank you to Devi Watson and Sara Schembri for scooping ice cream and to Christine Tolton, Julie Fox Ivey and others who solicited donations for the auction and raffle. We extend our special thank you to all the companies/people who contributed auction, raflle items and entertainment to our event and to both Alison Fraser and Steve McDermid for hosting!

Long Sault Community Bake Sale - May 25, 2014
A bake sale fundraiser helded in Long Sault, Ontario as part of their Long Sault Community Yard Sale raised $324 for Mom2Mom Africa! A special thank you to Beth MacDonell for organizing and running this fundraiser!
Indiegogo Campaign to Build a New School - May 15, 2014
On May 15, 2014 after 34 days of running an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign, we raised $21,648 (109% of our goal) to build a new school and start a food program for the CHETI 4 Students in Arusha, TZ. These funds will be added to the funds raised at the Boston Pizza Fundraiser in February 2014 and the Bake Sale Fundraiser held by Lesley Warren Design Group. Funds above our target goal are being used for student desks, an expanded food program and student textbooks.

Bake Sale Fundraiser - May 14, 2014
Lesley Warren Design Group held a bake sale fundraiser on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 and raised $260.20 for CHETI 4 School. All funds raised will be put towards desks, textbooks and an expanded food program at the school.
Garage Sale Fundraisers - May 4 & 10, 2014
We held garage sales this year to raise funds for Mom2Mom Africa administrative costs (insurance, bank fees, etc.) and raised $1,390.90. A special thank you to everyone who donated items and/or volunteered their time at the garage sale including Joelle Morettin, Christine Tolton, Julie Gil, Julie Fox Ivey, Leanne Uttley, Joanne Marchildon, Tammy Cumming, Sherry Dosman, Katie McDonald, Brenda & Kim Belton and Alison Fraser. BOSTON PIZZA - February 12, 2014
On February 12th, we held a fundraiser at Boston Pizza- Sportsworld as a starting point to raise funds to build a new CHETI School with food program. The night was a success with Mom2Mom Africa children volunteering as Boston Pizza hostesses, waitresses and waiters. We raised $541.58 at this fundraising event and this money has been used to start the food program at CHETI 4 and to start building the new school. The additional funds needed to build the school and continue the food program will be primarily raised through an Indiegogo Campaign in April 2014.

CARE PACKAGE EVENT - NOVEMBER 2013
Mom2Mom Africa supporters and volunteers worked tirelessly to raise enough funds and collect enough donated items to fill 65 care packages to send with Alison Fraser, Julie Fox-Ivey and Christine Tolton on their trip to Arusha, Tanzania to visit the Mom2Mom Africa Urafiki Program students. APPLEBEE'S FUNDRAISER - SEPTEMBER 2013
On September 29, 2013, Applebee's (Cambridge) held a fundraiser in support of Mom2Mom Africa. Mom2Mom Africa children volunteered to serve breakfast to guests. The breakfast fundraiser was a great success raising over $1,000. The funds from this fundraiser were used to buy much needed items for our Urafiki Program students, including school and gym uniforms and textbooks. This event was featured in SNAP Cambridge and the Cambridge Times. A special thanks to Essence Salon and Spa for their financial support and to all of the volunteers involved in hosting the event. A special thanks to Alison Fraser for coordinating this fundraiser.
ANNUAL SUMMER FUNDRAISER - JUNE 1, 2013
On June 1, 2013, we held our annual Mom2Mom Africa Summer Backyard Fundraiser - a Carnival. Mom2Mom Africa adult and child volunteers helped organized and run the event. Several families built games and ran events at the fundraiser. In addition, numerous children performed in the talent show portion of the carnival. The audience was entertained by highland dancers, Irish dancers, gymnasts, cheerleaders, pianists, and singers. The event was attended by close to 100 friends and family. We raised approximately $3300 to help fund the educational needs of students in the Urafiki Program. This event was featured in the Cambridge Times.
GARAGE SALE FUNDRAISER
In May 2013, Julie Fox Ivey and her family organized a garage sale to benefit Mom2Mom Africa. We raised $1000 and all proceeds were used to fund the organizational costs associated (i.e., insurance) with running a Not for Profit Organization in Canada. Special thanks to the Fox Ivey Family!
ANNUAL SUMMER FUNDRAISER - JUNE 3, 2012
On June 3, 2012, we held our Annual Summer Backyard Fundraiser. The theme this year was "A Musical Safari Adventure" and the children were entertained by Lorne Lampert of Mystic Drumz. Lorne taught the children about different musical instruments used around the world, through the story of the Button People. Despite the rainy weather, we had almost 100 friends and family attend the event. We raised almost $3,000 to help fund the education needs of children in the Urafiki Program. This event was featured in SNAP Cambridge.
