Primary School Sponsorship

Three children began primary school on July 5th, 2010, thanks to the funds raised at the What I Want to be When I Grow Up event. Reginald, Pascal and Joyce will be fed two meals at school each day, and they received their uniform, new school shoes and school supplies.

Three additional primary school children, Emanuella, Zamda and Yusuph, began school on August 5th, and September 5th, 2010 respectively through Mom2Mom Africa sponsorships. They will be fed two meals at school each day, and received new uniforms.

An additional three primary school children, Ally, Yunisi and Awadhi, began school on October 25th, through Mom2Mom Africa sponsorships. They will be fed two meals at school each day, and received new uniforms.

An additional primary school child, Aisha, began school on March 2nd, through Mom2Mom Africa sponsorship. She will be fed two meals at school each day, and receive a new uniform.

Rehema began school in April, 2011, through Mom2Mom Africa sponsorship. She will be fed two meals at school each day, and receive a new uniform.

With the success of the Musical Safari fundraiser Sheldrake, Meshaki and Mwanahidi began school in June, 2011. They will be fed two meals at school each day, and receive a new uniform.

Fatuma began school in July 2011. She will be fed two meals at school each day, and received a new uniform and shoes.

Bernadeta began school in September 2012. She will be fed two meals at school each day, and received a new uniform and shoes.

Rob Chekwaze is able to act as my eyes and ears in Tanzania. He will be monitoring the progress of the children and will provide updates on a continuous basis. In addition, I will stay in contact with the CHETI school via email. Rob also sponsors Glory.
Reginald began Mom2Mom sponsorship at 3 years old. His single mother, who is 20 years old, is raising him. His mother works as a housegirl and cannot afford to send Reginald to school. Joyce began Mom2Mom sponsorship at 3 years old. Her father is not able to find work and her mother works in a textiles factory. Wages are low and sometimes food for the family can be very limited. Upon hearing of the news of her daughter being chosen to be sponsored, Joyce's mom burst into tears. Joyce attends the CHETI school all year long. Pascal began Mom2Mom sponsorship at 6 years old. He lives with his grandparents. He has never attended school. He spent his first three months in a pre-primary school to get him caught up to the level needed to enter primary school. Pascal attends the CHETI school for 9 months per year. Emanuella began Mom2Mom sponsorship at 6 years old, with three siblings. Her father no longer supports the family.  Her mother could not support all of her children, and as a result, Emanuella is being raised by her aunt and uncle. Emanuella's uncle works a a porter, which is considered to be the most disadvantaged economic class in Tanzania. Emanuella has never attended school, despite desperately wanting to. Emanuella attended the CHETI school the pre-primary class in preparation for entrance into the primary program. She is sponsored by a Cambridge family, through Mom2Mom Africa. Zamda Zamda began Mom2Mom sponsorship at 7 years old and is one of six children in her family. Her parents struggle greatly to support the family. Zamda has never attended school. She attended CHETI in the pre-primary program, entered the primary program shortly thereafter. Zamda is being sponsored by another Cambridge family, through Mom2Mom Canada Africa. Yusuph Yusuph began Mom2Mom sponsorship at 6 years old. He has four siblings. His father passed away in 2006 and his mom struggled to support the family until she also died in 2012. With Mom2Mom support, Yusuph attended the pre-primary class at CHETI and then entered the primary program when he was ready academically. Yusuph is now attending boarding school due to the recent deaths of both parents, leaving him orphaned and caring for himself. A local Cambridge family is paying Yusuph's school fees and living expenses at Imani Primary School.

 

Awadhi began Mom2Mom sponsorship at 6 years old. His father left when he was born and his mother died two years ago of malaria. His aunt took him in, despite already struggling to provide for her own children. She is an extremely dedicated mother and aunt. Her husband works as a security guard, which is one of the lowest paying jobs in Tanzania. Awadhi has never been to school. The family often struggles to provide food for the children. Awadhi is sponsored by Mom2Mom Africa and now receives a high quality education at CHETI. Ally is Awadhi's cousin and began Mom2Mom sponsorship at 7 years old . He was forced to leave school two months ago due to outstanding fees that his parents could not pay. His mother was devastated and desperately tried to save enough money to pay the school fees. Unfortunately, she was not able to do so. She is overjoyed that both Awadhi and Ally are now able to return to school thanks to the generosity of Canadian families. An Ottawa family has come forward to sponsor him. He now receives a high quality education at CHETI, and is fed lunch daily. View the tuition receipts

 

Yunisi began Mom2Mom sponsorship at 5 years old and has three siblings. She is the youngest and the family can't afford to send her to school. They were hoping to be able to send her in a few years but it is unlikely. Her father works in construction, but can be laid off for months at a time. The mother sells eggs from the 11 chickens they own and they rely on that to pay for rent, food and school for her older siblings. Her siblings, unfortunately, go to a school where the educational standards are quite low and English is not taught. Thanks to the generosity of a local family, Yusini is now receiving a high quality education at CHETI, including English instruction. She is also fed daily at the school. Aisha began Mom2Mom sponsorship at 7 years old, and lives with her parents. Her father is the sole financial provider for the family. He works at weaving balls for children to play with using plastic nylon and sells them on the street. This family is extremely poor and is thrilled that their daughter has been given the chance to attend CHETI. Rehema began Mom2Mom sponsorship at 4 years old, and lives with her mother, who is raising her alone and supports the family by selling tomatoes. This family can't afford an education and are thrilled that Rehema will be given the chance to study at CHETI. Rehema began her studies on April 1, 2011, sponsored by a Cambridge family. Loveness Sheldrake began Mom2Mom sponsorship as a 6 year old twin (Meshaki's brother). His father recently passed away of typhoid and malaria. There are 6 children in the family. The family can only afford to send three children to primary school, so Sheldrake and Meshaki were unable to go to school. A Cambridge family has agreed to sponsor Sheldrake to attend CHETI. He is fed lunch at the school.

 

Loveness Meshaki began Mom2Mom sponsorship as a 6 year old twin (Sheldrake's brother). His father recently passed away of typhoid and malaria. There are 6 children in the family. The family can only afford to send three children to primary school, so Sheldrake and Meshaki were unable to go to school. A Barrie family is sponsoring Meshaki to attend CHETI. He is fed lunch at the school.

 

Loveness Mwanahidi began Mom2Mom sponsorship at 5 years old and the fourth child of a family of five children. The father left the family in 2005. The mother tries to support the family by selling small fish, cassava and sugar potato. She can't afford to send Mwanahidi to school.
A Waterloo family agreed to sponsor Mwanahidi to attend CHETI. She is fed lunch at the school. Mwanahidi is thrilled to be given a chance to attend the CHETI school.

 

Fatuma began Mom2Mom sponsorship at 5 years old and an orphan. Her father died of typhoid and malaria before she was born, and her mother died in childbirth. Fatuma now lives with her grandmother, who supports her through the charity of neighbours and begging, as she is too old to work. Thanks to the generosity of a Cambridge family, Fatuma now attends the CHETI school, and is fed lunch at the school and is provided with a uniform and shoes.

 

Bernadeta Danieli Kaula is now a student at CHETI and began classes September 2012. She is 7 years old and was born in the Kondoa region of Tanzania. Do to extreme poverty, her parents left her to be raised by her grandmother. Eventually, Bernadeta moved to Arusha to live with her uncle who cannot afford to send her to school. Prior to beginning school at CHETI, she spent her days carrying out domestic duties in their neighbourhood.

These 16 children will be funded through the entire primary school program, until they reach Standard 7. At that point, if all goes well, we hope to sponsor them in secondary school.
